Motivation Celebration!

It’s not just my kids that need motivating around here. I might harp on them for every day things like picking up their Legos so I don’t take one to the arch and die, or not leaving their granola bar wrappers all over the house, but I should really be getting on myself for things I should be doing as well.

As little motivation as my boys seem to have at times, they sure do seem to have more than me! In adulthood, I’ve found that it’s so easy to get bogged down by responsibility and the every-day grind, that things I want to do, yet aren’t imparative to survival around here, get cast aside until they’re almost forgotten about.

I hate to say that this has even happened with my beloved writing! I’ve been working on my 3rd book since before my 2nd book was released, which was over a year ago now (CRAZY!), but I’ve been stuck. And I can’t just blame it on not having enough material (though that is a valid point). It’s motivation. it’s life getting in the way.

So, recently I said to myself, I need to really get chugging on this. If I can just pound out 3,000 words, I will really be started, and I know that will be the motivation to get me over the writing slump hump.

I’m not going to lie, it wasn’t easy, and as much as I love writing, triyng to force it out isn’t always fun, but if you don’t start, you’ll never start, and sometimes it takes a little pushing. SO DID. AND LEMME TELL YA, FRIENDS. I DID IT!

I know it’s not much, my books clock in at over 30,000 words a piece, but it’s a start, and that’s something to celebrate, no matter how small!

You know how much of an advocate I am of celebrating little victories, whether it be making it through the week without selling the kids on Craigslist, or not slamming the snooze button on your alarm 17 times twice a week. CELEBRATE!

Usually my husband takes control of the grilling, but this was my accomplishment, so I wanted to take charge of the grill.

Luckily a little but of Kingsford Match Light Instant Light Charcoal goes a long way, and we still had a bunch left over from our last grilling adventure, so we didn’t have to run out to Wal-Mart this time.

This gave me more of the time I don’t have to focus on making Gouda stuffed cheeseburgers

Did I mention that I tossed pepperjack on top?

I’m not just saying this because I made them myself, or got intoxicated by the smell of the burgers cooking over hot coal, but they were the most delicious burgers I’ve had in a long time. Maybe it’s the added flavor of accomplishing a goal I set like a proper adult? I can’t confirm, but what I CAN tell you is that even my kids loved them and went on and on about how good they were.

Tell me that’s not the face of a satisfied customer?

NOW, if I could just carry on the motivation and finish this book, I’ll have something even bigger to celebrate, and bigger burgers to grill!
