Have a Problem? There’s a Netflix Series for That!

Remember when apps were a new-fangled invention and the saying you heard five billion times per day was “There’s an app for that!”?

Well, it’s not so novel anymore- of course there’s an app for that. In fact, there’s 45 different apps just for that random specific thing- so I’m re-purposing the phrase to something far more useful:

There’s a Netflix series for that!

Some people might think that TV is the root of all evil- doing nothing but melting children’s mind, but I respectfully disagree. If you use its power for good, and the occasional evil (look, sometimes I just need it to ‘babysit’ my kids so I can make them some friggin’ food!)- it can teach kids valuable lessons in life.

Lesson on telling the truth? There’s a Netflix series for that!

Sibling rivalry? There’s a Netflix series for that!

Self esteem issues? Yes, there’s even a Netflix series for that!

Now, my kids fight constantly- but the biggest issue we’ve been facing in our house lately is with Holden. He, like me, suffers from anxiety and self-doubt. He’s an awesome student, but his anxiety has been crippling for him because he spends a lot of time worrying that he isn’t good enough, that because he HAS anxiety, he’s different from everyone else.
He’s at a tough age because it’s the first year where he gets grades and it’s put a lot of pressure on the kids in every area.

pussAlong with teaching him how to manage his anxiety (which is taking time, but working), I sat him down and showed him an episode of the Netflix original series- Puss in Boots, where Dulcinea feels like no one really needs her. In the end, she comes to realize that just being herself, being present, is more than enough for her friends. Definitely time spent watching the tube that is worthy of a little brain-melting, am I right?
I can’t say for sure if it helped Holden’s anxiety in the long run, but I know it helped him see things from a different perspective- and that is definitely a start on the right path!

Give these episodes a shot and get some conversations started in your home!
