Over the weekend I put up an ad on Craigslist advertising my upcoming yard sale this weekend. I’ve found oodles of yard sales on there before, so if it worked to get me out to one, it could potentially work to get people to come to mine… and the more people, the more money. And money is good!
I sort of expected to get a few emails inquiring about certain things. People and their questions!
The two i’ve gotten thus far have BOTH been questions about pricing, since I did not mention any specific prices in the listing.
Of course i’ve thought about price, but I haven’t REALLY thought about price- if that makes any sense at all. I had to come up with prices to give these people on the fly, not having any idea of the numbers I sent back were acceptable, or normal, or too high. I’m clueless!
I’ve sold things on Craigslist hundreds of times before, but i’ve never had my own yard sale. Usually what i’ve noticed is that CL prices are way higher than yard sale prices. Why? That’s a good question. I guess you can ask for more when you’re not desperate to get rid of hundreds of things in one day.
So i’ve got questions about pricing for all of you who have experience holding one of these confounded things. I’d prefer to figure this crap out and not leave it all until Friday night and be scrambling to mark everything and organize it, etc etc. I’d like to have it ALL done so that when the asscrack of dawn comes on Saturday morning, I don’t have to see it.
Obviously I want to make as much money as I can and not just be GIVING things away- since I spent hard earned money on everything i’m peddling… but I also don’t want to be totally ripping people off, or have people walk away because my prices are too high.
What are good prices for baby clothes? And do I give more of a value to name brand than something like Circo? I do on CL- but is that normal for a yard sale? Am I being too much of a nitpicker?
What about a Snugli baby carrier?
Shopping cart cover?
Play yard with two extension gates (one of which has never even been opened)?
An entire baby bedding set complete with matching mobile?
Baby tool bench?
I’m so lost!
And what about STAINED baby clothes? I mean, try as I might, I can’t get them out… but they’re things like The Children’s Place and Baby Gap. Do I even bother selling something like that? Even if just for .10 cents? Maybe someone else could get the stains out, then they’d be getting a bargain!
So much thought and preparation that goes into this crap… I am not a fan! But I will be of my house is clutter free and my pocket is full-o-monies.
Oh, that reminds me, I still have to get a stupid permit since this city is anal and makes you pay them to have a yard sale, in your own yard. Stupid city.
Any tips, prices, extra guidance would be much appreciated!
The fact that the wine section of Wal-Mart is directly next to the baby section cannot be an accident.

I've never had a near death experience, but I DID find 2 spiders in my house this morning, and that's pretty much the same thing.
