Air humping like it’s going out of style

Per usual, i’ll be honest: I was starting to get the feeling that Parker would NEVER crawl. Leave it to me to be optimistic!
Really though, he’d made no progress in the ‘moving forward’ front for months.
I figured he’d either be the baby that goes straight to walking.. or he’d just stay in that same damn place on the floor- and i’d be his slave. Bringing him everything he wants, all he has to do is reach and whine. And he knows i’d do it, too.

The floor spinning made me a little hopeful, but it was still not ANY closer to him actually getting up on his knees and actually moving. Forward anyways. Totally foreign concept to him. Any time he actually attempts to move in a forward-like direction, he ends up scooting backwards. Sure he did it once or twice a month ago, but not a single time since then. Gotta love how babies learn things, go to sleep, wake up, and the slate is wiped clean. Baffling.
I keep thinking maybe I need to wrap non-slip pads around his knees and he’ll be good to go.. but that would mean he’d need to lift that Buddha belly off of the ground for more than a half second at a time.

Now, I wouldn’t say it was like a light switch flipping- but 2 days ago I noticed him actually getting his tummy off of the ground.. and NOT scooting back.
And he holds that position like it is his MISSION in life. He can’t fully get his knees under him, it’s almost a pike position- but each day he does it more and better than the previous. And as SOON as he realizes he’s up in the air, he immediately starts air humping. Like a dog’s instinct to hump a leg, a baby’s instinct is to hump the air. Practicing for that first forward crawl step. Of course, he doesn’t realize that moving forward isn’t going to happen if his knees are so far back- but he’s getting close!
MAYBE, if he practices really hard, he’ll actually be mobile by the time he’s 9 months old. Very short deadline. Not holding my breath there.. but it would be a cool birthday present for Thomas for Parker to start crawling (since Parker turns 9 months the same day Thomas turns 26).

I guess I should start thinking about baby proofing.. because as Parker was slowly spinning himself and slowly making his way around the living room today I saw all of the intense baby hazards and mess making situations he is going to get himself into. I really hate having a baby proofed house. I have not missed that part of parenthood at all! And here it comes around the corner yet again.. except this time we have twice as much to baby proof and a hell of a lot more junk to try and hide.
