It is not easy for me to be a stay at home mom, and probably not for the reasons you’re thinking. I don’t really get bored, I don’t freak out because I don’t have a life (I don’t.. and most of the time I don’t really care). I LIKE staying home with my kids every day, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. The issue is money.. isn’t it always?
I have been, for the most part, self sufficient since I turned 18. I moved out, got my own place, paid my own bills, had a full time job, etc etc. I’ve never liked having to rely on someone else for money, asking someone else for money to go and get things I need or want- it’s always made me uncomfortable. Perhaps i’m the type who hates to ask for help, can’t say for sure.
Being a stay at home mom, with no job or income.. meant going against EVERYTHING I had worked for and become accustomed to, and enjoyed, for the 5 years before having Holden.
At first, since I had savings, I had no need to ask Thomas for money for anything- which was nice. We’ve always been on a strict enough budget as it is, that I would and do feel guilty any time I ask for money for ANYTHING, even if it’s something I desperately need. So if I have my OWN money, I don’t feel so bad about spending it because it isn’t money that is already promised to something else more important.
So I started looking for other revenues of money. I don’t have time or patience for ridiculous scams like making cold calls for companies from home- I don’t like doing sales. I needed something I could do after the kids went to bed at my own leisure.
The first thing I did was to put ads on this very blog. Google Adsense. Everything was going great at first. I was making money without doing ANY work.. but I had to make a minimum amount and be a member for a certain amount of time before getting my first check cut. And RIGHT before that first check was going to be cut- they disabled my account and gave me some bullshit reason as to why they wouldn’t be paying me the money they owed me. Same thing happened to my friend. It’s a big fat scam. GREAT.
Next was to find companies to pay me to blog. And I did. And that’s been going well for over a year. I’ve made almost $1,000 dollars for writing about certain products or websites and posting it to this blog. It might not seem like a lot compared to a ‘real’ job, but ANY money is better than no money and it’s certainly helped me not to go broke, and helped us to pay bills when we’re in dire situations.
Still, there aren’t many legit sites i’ve found that will pay you to blog unless you have an INSANE amount of visitors per day.. and this blog is relatively popular- but not THAT popular.. so at times, the opportunities to write sponsored posts are few and far between, meaning a huge lapse in any money made.. which is not acceptable to me.
So off I went to try to find even more ways to make a little but of extra cash.
I found a few legit survey sites, where I can fill out surveys for a few bucks.. and that’s been only OK. Most of the time, i’ll get 15 minutes into a survey only to be told I don’t fit the criteria.. frustrating. Why not decide i’m not a match with the pre-qualifying questions (which they ask before EVERY survey) instead of making me get so far into it only to boot me out? Basically they’re getting an assload of free information and i’m not getting paid for it 75% of the time. Again, some money is better than NO money, but i’d appreciate getting paid for EVERY survey I take, even if only partially.. even if only .50 cents, SOMETHING. I deserve SOMETHING.
Even more recently I heard about a website called Swagbucks, where you can earn points just for SEARCHING. And once you build up points you can ‘buy’ giftcards with those points for places like Amazon and other useful things. Easy, and cool. I’ll be putting up the banner on this blog so that you can join.. and in the process make me some extra money for referring you. Do it! Really, it’s free and simple. Or you can just click this here link: http://www.swagbucks.com/refer/Fishysticks
Making money from home.. it’s not easy. But it CAN be done. If you have any ways I haven’t mentioned that are legit, please let me know in the comments section! And if you are LOOKING to make money and want to know what sites i’m using, ask me, and i’ll be happy to let you know. I like to spread the wealth.
Leftovers are great for 2 things: Easy, quick dinners, and getting to hear your kids complain about the same meal twice in a week!
@anninabyrne He mentioned something about penis trampolines. I don't even know.
My 10 yo didn't know that Dick is short for Richard so he's spent the past 10 yrs thinking Dick's Sporting Goods is a store for penis sports
8yo told me that Oct 31st is "national knock-knock joke day"- which means Halloween will henceforth be known as "The Most Annoying Day Ever"
@SassyPsychDoc "It seemed like a good idea at the time"
@SassyPsychDoc I fact-checked him myself. Someone was seriously sleeping on the job that day
Thought my 8yo was lying when he said that a male woodchuck is a he-chuck & a female is a she-chuck.Nope. If I have to know that, so do you!
Sometimes advice from our kids is EXACTLY what we need to hear. Been a rough few months & what my 8yo said hit home holdinholden.com/2017/10/winn…
10yo: What is calculus? Me: It's you + me = us Husband: get out. #oldpeoplejokes
