Walmart formula deal!

I’ve mentioned in previous blogs that as of October 1st, WIC has reallocated funding for formula.
WIC is a federal agency that provides food, nutrition counseling, and access to health services to low-income women, infants, and children.
They have just introduced a new food package to try and encourage breastfeeding for families. The new program, which is mandated for all states, reallocates funding for all currently provided foods, including infant formula, baby foods, juices, and fresh fruits and vegetables.

Now, obviously if you select the breastfeeding package, you will not receive any infant formula (but you do get tuna).
In Addition (and shocking to me), women who partially breastfeed or formula feed exclusively will receive 13 percent less formula than was afforded in previous years.
This means that parents who previously had most of their formula paid for by WIC may now have to purchase regular-formula on their own.
It seems to sort of defeat the purpose of WIC for formula feeding mommies when you are receiving much less help then before. Formula isn’t cheap. Any help is better then no help, but it can put a mean hurt on your wallet.

It’s important to know that there is NO difference in the quality of ‘name brand’ formula and store brand formula. They both go by the same FDA regulations, and the name brands are honestly no better than store brand.. so if you’re finding yourself in a pinch because of new WIC guidelines, you won’t be harming your child by buying MUCH less expensive store brands.. because they’re essentially the same exact thing!

Right now, Wal-mart’s Parents Choice formula is on sale in a 15.5 oz (440 gram) can for $5.00 each. Also, the Parent’s Choice Gentle Infant Formula for babies with fussiness or gas is on sale in a special 12.9 oz (366 gram) can for $5.00 each. This is HUGE savings, even for a store brand formula. if you baby’s tummy isn’t too particular, this would definitely be something to run out and stock up on ASAP.
